About Extraction

What is Cryo Ethanol Extraction?

Cryo Ethanol Extraction uses food-grade ethanol at extremely low temperatures (-40°C to -80°C) to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from plant material while minimizing the extraction of unwanted compounds like chlorophyll and waxes.

What is Hydrocarbon Extraction?

Hydrocarbon extraction uses light hydrocarbons like butane and propane as solvents to extract cannabinoids and terpenes. This method is known for producing high-quality concentrates with excellent terpene preservation.

Which extraction method is best for my facility?

The best extraction method depends on your production goals, desired end products, budget, and regulatory requirements. Our team can help you evaluate your needs and recommend the optimal solution.

What is the CryoEXS system?

The CryoEXS is DEVEX’s cryo ethanol extraction system, designed in partnership with Root Sciences to produce what both companies identify as ‘The Ultimate Cannabis Pre-Distillation Process.

About Distillation

What is Short Path Distillation?

Short Path Distillation is a thermal separation process characterized by the distilled vapor only traveling a short path before condensing on the condenser, enabling efficient operation with little waste.

Who is VTA?

VTA is a specialist in thermal process engineering based in Germany. The company designs and manufactures thin film and short path distillation plants for laboratory and pilot purposes.

What purity levels can VTA distillation achieve?

VTA distillation equipment can achieve cannabinoid purity levels exceeding 99%, making it ideal for producing high-quality distillates.

What is the throughput of VTA equipment?

Throughput varies by model. For example, the VKL 70-5 can process up to 1500ml/hr, while larger industrial models offer significantly higher capacities.

About Nanoemulsification

What is nanoemulsification?

Nanoemulsification is a process that breaks down cannabinoid oil into nanometer-sized particles, making them water-soluble and dramatically increasing their bioavailability.

What are the benefits of water-soluble cannabinoids?

Water-soluble cannabinoids offer faster onset times, increased bioavailability (meaning lower doses are more effective), and easier incorporation into beverages and other water-based products.

What equipment does Root Sciences offer for nanoemulsification?

Root Sciences partners with GEA of Italy to provide industrial-scale nanoemulsification equipment for cannabinoid applications.

About THC Remediation

What is THC remediation?

THC remediation is the process of reducing THC levels in hemp-derived products to meet the legal limit of 0.3% or less, while preserving other desirable cannabinoids.

Why is THC remediation important?

For hemp producers, THC remediation ensures products comply with federal regulations, allowing them to be legally sold and distributed across state lines.

What methods are used for THC remediation?

Common methods include chromatography, distillation, and specialized filtration techniques. The best method depends on your specific product requirements and scale.
